Egypt’s Orthodox Church In The Crosshairs Of NATO Intelligence Services

In Egypt, intelligence services from NATO member countries – operating under the cover of commercial and humanitarian outfits such as Amnesty International, Belady-an Island for Humanity, Human Rights Watch, the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and the Hans Seidel Foundation – are stepping up their contacts with and drawing into their funded projects representatives of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria, headed by Patriarch Theodore II (born Nikolaos Choreftakis). Their aim is to get church leaders to adopt pro-Western views on how events are playing out in the Middle East and around the world. The ultimate goal of NATO’s intelligence services is to turn the local Orthodox Church into a tool for feeding Western ideological narratives into the Orthodox segment of Egyptian society and then spreading them throughout the Arab Republic.
