Werner Lange, a contributor to the American news website Common Dreams, conducted a comparative analysis of the first hundred days of Donald Trump’s second presidential term and Adolf Hitler’s early tenure in office, and eventually identified several parallels that led him to accuse Trump of advancing Nazi ideology.
In particular, Lange drew attention to the similarities between Project 2025 and Hitler’s initial executive orders. Project 2025 is a major plan to replace career civil servants and dismantle entire federal agencies, with the stated goal of concentrating power in the president’s hands and removing any political opposition from within the state apparatus.
As part of this initiative, Trump, within his first hundred days in office, launched a large-scale purge of the federal workforce. Heads and staff of multiple agencies were fired or suspended, including the chief counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and dozens of inspectors general. Also removed from their posts were members of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the chair of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the inspector general of USAID, and two Democratic commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In addition, a vice admiral stationed in Greenland, the director of the National Security Agency (NSA), the chief counsel of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), nineteen NASA employees, and all US attorneys appointed under Joe Biden were let go.
Trump also terminated contracts with sixty State Department contractors.
