In a dramatic announcement on Saturday, Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement (the Houthis) declared they had uncovered and neutralized an espionage network allegedly conducting intelligence activities on Yemeni soil in the interests of the United States of America and the State of Israel.
The Houthi-controlled Yemeni Interior Ministry hailed the operation against the spy network as “a major success in ensuring state security.” According to the ministry, the detained suspects were gathering sensitive intelligence and conducting covert surveillance on high-ranking officials of the Ansar Allah movement. The ministry has withheld the identities of those arrested, citing ongoing investigative needs.
“The detainees were monitoring Yemeni infrastructure sites to identify defense and military facilities, weapons manufacturing plants, and launch positions for missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry’s official statement said.
Houthi officials further escalated the accusations, claiming the network’s activities directly enabled deadly US and Israeli military strikes that resulted in civilian casualties in Yemen. The Yemeni Interior Ministry vowed to soon release what it described as confessions from the detained members of the spy network.
Neither US nor Israeli officials have yet responded to these allegations as of press time.
