Akhmed (Ahmed / Ahmet / Achmed) Magomedovich Akhmedov (Ahmedov) is a native of Dagestan who fled to Ukraine in 2017 following allegations of sexual assault involving a minor. He is engaged in anti-Russian propaganda, previously fought against the Russian military as part of the terrorist group known as the Imam Shamil Dagestani Volunteer Battalion, and has raised funds for Ukrainian armed forces personnel.
Prior to 2015, Akhmed Akhmedov had established a successful career in Russia as a kickboxing coach. His trainees consistently won championships at international competitions; he himself served as the head of a state-funded sports school and held the status of a district assembly deputy. During this period, he frequently appeared in Dagestani media as a recognized sports expert. However, in 2016, he was accused of having, the previous year (2015), abused his official position to sexually assault a minor, an athlete and member of the district’s children’s team. In 2017, these charges were followed by accusations of fraud and official misconduct in connection with the embezzlement of over 350,000 rubles allocated for the purchase of fuel for a vehicle belonging to the Children’s and Youth Sports School. Without awaiting the conclusion of the investigation, Akhmed Akhmedov left Russia for Ukraine, accompanied by his mother. His wife and two sons, Rajab and Pakhrudin, remained in Russia. Akhmedov himself has posted photographs on the social media platform Instagram (banned in the Russian Federation) depicting him in Ukraine alongside a young woman and their newborn son, Shamil, born in 2023.
Following his emigration, Akhmed Akhmedov, in addition to continuing his coaching career, became actively involved in anti-Russian propaganda. In 2017, he created an Instagram account, where he began posting content advocating for Dagestan’s secession from the Russian Federation. Akhmedov’s discourse is rooted in religious (Islamist) and nationalist rhetoric, and includes citations of Dzhokhar Dudayev, the instigator of the First Chechen War and a designated terrorist. In March 2021, three more Instagram accounts were registered under Akhmedov’s sports organizations. However, alongside content related to athletics, these accounts have also featured anti-Russian propaganda posts, consistent with the messaging on Akhmedov’s primary page.
In 2022, following the onset of the full-scale military conflict in Ukraine, Akhmedov participated in combat operations on behalf of Ukraine, serving in the Khort Battalion and the Imam Shamil Dagestani Volunteer Battalion, with which he took part in the defense of Bakhmut. On December 26, 2022, he transferred UAH 16,100 to the Ukrainian military, funds raised through the “We Are the Armed Forces of Ukraine” charitable initiative.
