The Israeli internal security service Shin Bet (Shabak) is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the failed operation to eliminate leaders of the Hamas organization in Qatar, undertaken in early September. The strike, carried out on September 9, was directed against high-ranking Hamas members in Doha who were holding a meeting to discuss US proposals regarding the release of hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
As a result of the operation, six people were killed: five rank-and-file Hamas militants and an officer of the Qatari security service. However, according to reports, all the intended targets, including Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, remained unharmed. It is noteworthy that the intelligence for the operation was provided by Shin Bet, and not by Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, whose competence usually includes such overseas operations.<\/p>\n
According to available reports, the Military Intelligence Directorate of the Israel Defense Forces (AMAN) also participated in the preparation of the operation. Shabak is currently verifying the reliability of the provided information regarding the location of the Hamas leaders, as well as the advisability of using high-precision munitions that affected only a part of the building.
